Triund Overview
Triund FRH is at a lofty 2,842 m and is located at the end of a strenuous 9 kms uphill trek that begins at Mcleodganj along the south-face of the Dhauladhar Mountains. This rest house was built in 1913-14 when the district of Kangra was one of the largest in the country. From the rest house, there is a stunning view of the Kangra valley below and in the other direction, are the majestic Dhauladhar Mountains. This trek also offers excellent views of Bhagsu village, Mcleodganj as well as of the low Shivalik hills. Triund is the base camp and serves as the acclimatisation point for climbing up to the lndrahar Pass (4,340m). The trail to Triund is well defined and passes through a mixed forest of oak, deodar and rhododendrons. The first leg of the climb is fairly easy, but the last stretch, popularly called '22 curves' is quite demanding. En route, there are several small tea shops and wayside eateries.
